Rolex Submariner 40mm - Ref. 16613

For sale is a Rolex Submariner Date Ref. 16613 from 2003, crafted in stainless steel and 18k yellow gold, featuring a black dial and matching black bezel. Originally retailed by Ernest Jones in the UK, this example is fitted with its steel and gold Oyster bracelet and is accompanied by its box, papers, a Rolex service receipt from 2009, booklets and chronometer swing tag.

The Dial
The glossy black dial features gold surrounds to the luminous hour markers, matching gold lettering and the classic Mercedes handset. The luminous plots and hands contrast beautifully against the black background, displaying a bright green lume when charged, as shown in the photographs. A fine gold minute track frames the dial, with the date positioned at 3 o’clock beneath the Cyclops magnifier and the “SWISS” signature below 6 o’clock.

The Case
The 40mm stainless steel case is paired with an 18k yellow gold winding crown and unidirectional rotating bezel. Its black aluminium insert features gold-tone numerals and graduations, with a luminous pearl at 12 o’clock and some light surface marks visible on close inspection. Brushed lug tops contrast with the polished case sides, while the sapphire crystal and distinctive crown guards complete the classic Submariner profile.

The Bracelet
The watch is fitted with a Rolex Oyster bracelet in stainless steel and 18k yellow gold, combining brushed steel outer links with polished gold centre links. The three-piece link design gives it a sporty appearance, balanced by the warmth of the gold. It is secured by a stainless steel folding safety clasp bearing the Rolex coronet.

The Movement
Powered by the Rolex Calibre 3135, this automatic movement features a quickset date and hacking seconds for precise time setting. A longstanding movement within the Submariner range, it is known for its robust construction and dependable design.
